In the Canary pine wood of El Hierro almost no shrubs exist. Hence it looks like a park. Particularly annual Fabaceae (Vicia sp., Trifolium sp.) grow on the ground often covered by thick layers of pine needles. In the spring the annual plants give the ground a gentle green, which disappears at the beginning of the summer drought.
